Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Spartan Delta Corp (TSX:SDE), which rose 3.86% or 0.57 points to trade at 15.32 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 3.59% or 1.12 points to end at 32.33 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) was up 3.49% or 0.32 points to 9.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa), which lost 7.50% or 1.26 points to trade at 15.53 in late trade. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) declined 5.30% or 1.79 points to end at 31.96 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) shed 5.21% or 0.42 points to 7.64.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 584 to 442 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.68% to 16.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.34% or 6.25 to $1,819.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.68% or 2.02 to hit $77.41 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.73% or 2.20 to trade at $82.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.38% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 103.23.
