Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.28% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT), which rose 6.63% or 1.54 points to trade at 24.78 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 6.58% or 3.31 points to end at 53.60 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 2.94% or 0.14 points to 4.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI), which lost 14.05% or 3.92 points to trade at 23.99 in late trade. Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR) declined 13.73% or 10.58 points to end at 66.48 and Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa) shed 10.08% or 1.43 points to 12.76.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 703 to 295 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.68% to 12.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.92% or 16.75 to $1,835.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.47% or 1.13 to hit $75.53 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.42% or 1.17 to trade at $81.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.49% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 105.27.
