Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.55% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL), which rose 3.95% or 0.29 points to trade at 7.64 at the close. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) added 3.61% or 1.95 points to end at 55.95 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 3.14% or 0.09 points to 2.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH), which lost 24.72% or 10.76 points to trade at 32.77 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 5.55% or 0.43 points to end at 7.32 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) shed 5.10% or 0.08 points to 1.49.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 784 to 254 and 76 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.02% to 13.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.07% or 38.05 to $1,872.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.04% or 0.79 to hit $76.51 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.21% or 0.99 to trade at $82.58 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.52% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.67% at 104.60.
