* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 91.12 points, or 0.56 percent, to 16,284.53.
* Leading the index were CannTrust Holdings Inc TRST.TO , up 6.6 percent, Cronos Group Inc CRON.TO , up 6.2 percent, and Birchcliff Energy Ltd BIR.TO , higher by 6 percent.
* Lagging shares were Iamgold Corp IMG.TO , down 3.9 percent, New Gold Inc NGD.TO , down 3.7 percent, and MAG Silver Corp MAG.TO , lower by 3.2 percent.
* On the TSX 165 issues rose and 73 fell as a 2.3-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 14 new highs and 6 new lows, with total volume of 204.9 million shares.
* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Enbridge Inc ENB.TO , Manulife Financial Corp MFC.TO and Aurora Cannabis Inc ACB.TO .
* The TSX's energy group .SPTTEN rose 3.12 points, or 2.1 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS climbed 1.63 points, or 0.5 percent.
* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 rose 1.11 percent, or $0.68, to $61.72 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1 rose 1.34 percent, or $0.94, to $71.17 O/R
* The TSX is up 13.7 percent for the year.
