NEW YORK, July 9 (Reuters) -
* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 80.56 points, or 0.49 percent, to 16,452.34.
* The biggest contributor to the TSX gain was Canadian National Railway CNR.TO with 15.65 net index points. Industrials was the top sector contributor with 31.6 net points.
* Leading the index were Pretium Resources Inc PVG.TO , up 14.6 percent, Precision Drilling Corp PD.TO , up 6.8 percent, and First Quantum Minerals Ltd FM.TO , higher by 6 percent.
* Lagging shares were Endeavour Mining Corp EDV.TO , down 3.1 percent, NovaGold Resources Inc NG.TO , down 2.5 percent, and Guyana Goldfields Inc GUY.TO , lower by 2.2 percent.
* On the TSX 140 issues advanced and 98 declined as a 1.4-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 12 new highs and 1 new lows, with total volume of 149.1 million shares.
* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Bombardier Inc BBDb.TO , Aurora Cannabis Inc ACB.TO and Cenovus Energy Inc CVE.TO .
* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 rose 0.34 percent, or $0.25, to $74.05 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1 rose 1.45 percent, or $1.12, to $78.23 O/R
* The TSX is up 1.5 percent for the year.
