Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which rose 1.58% or 7.40 points to trade at 476.80 at the close. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) added 1.50% or 2.50 points to end at 169.60 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 1.22% or 34.15 points to 2,843.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which lost 4.17% or 139.50 points to trade at 3,203.10 in late trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 1.54% or 39.00 points to end at 2,492.60 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 1.30% or 42.65 points to 3,246.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 1.35% to 169.30, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 1.24% to settle at 2,843.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.99% to close at 772.50.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.22% to 2,494.85 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 1.08% to settle at 4,856.10 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.81% to 987.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1005 to 901 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1831 rose and 1551 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.75% to 11.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.40% or 7.95 to $2,015.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.53% or 1.21 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.37% or 1.14 to trade at $81.98 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.17% to 82.16, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 90.13.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 101.54.
