Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.38%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 2.17% or 69.65 points to trade at 3,281.20 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.11% or 16.95 points to end at 820.75 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 1.79% or 10.75 points to 611.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which lost 1.40% or 64.20 points to trade at 4,524.45 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 1.38% or 5.40 points to end at 385.90 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) shed 1.04% or 26.90 points to 2,553.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.99% to 819.45, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.85% to settle at 612.30 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 1.64% to close at 111.75.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.10% to 2,552.70 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 0.76% to settle at 6,994.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 0.65% to 2,567.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 968 to 917 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1786 rose and 1565 declined, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.78% to 14.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.19% or 3.45 to $1,812.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.53% or 1.21 to hit $77.75 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 1.02 to trade at $82.97 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.14% to 82.85, while EUR/INR rose 0.38% to 88.12.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 104.04.
