Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, IT and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.71% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 2.69% or 19.85 points to trade at 758.85 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 2.37% or 169.55 points to end at 7,318.95 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 2.36% or 56.55 points to 2,454.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which lost 2.16% or 17.10 points to trade at 773.45 in late trade. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 1.94% or 87.50 points to end at 4,429.65 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) shed 1.59% or 4.95 points to 306.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.75% to 759.20, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.36% to settle at 7,316.25 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 2.32% to close at 2,453.60.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.56% to 306.30 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.38% to settle at 153.55 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.04% to 2,612.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 957 to 873 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1741 rose and 1521 declined, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.29% to 18.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 7.85 to $1,805.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.83% or 0.76 to hit $92.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.77 to trade at $98.17 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.64% to 79.60, while EUR/INR rose 1.00% to 82.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.88.
