Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Auto and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.80%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 1.74% or 14.25 points to trade at 832.30 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 1.43% or 18.25 points to end at 1,292.60 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was up 1.10% or 61.95 points to 5,677.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which lost 2.89% or 28.55 points to trade at 958.60 in late trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) declined 2.88% or 47.10 points to end at 1,586.90 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) shed 2.46% or 30.55 points to 1,209.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 1.46% to 1,292.85, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.32% to settle at 5,685.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 0.83% to close at 3,242.35.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 3.08% to 1,583.80 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.81% to settle at 959.35 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.12% to 588.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1400 to 627 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2224 fell and 1294 advanced, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.79% to 10.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.10% or 21.65 to $1,945.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.95% or 0.85 to hit $88.81 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.89 to trade at $92.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.06% to 83.01, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 88.46.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 105.15.
