Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Transport and Railway & Bus sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233), which rose 3.71% or 74.00 points to trade at 2,068.00 at the close. J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086) added 3.34% or 46.00 points to end at 1,423.00 and Nikon Corp. (TYO:7731) was up 2.95% or 38.00 points to 1,324.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9532), which lost 1.72% or 38.00 points to trade at 2,166.00 in late trade. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) declined 1.64% or 85.00 points to end at 5,094.00 and Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) shed 1.55% or 100.00 points to 6,360.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1924 to 1563 and 335 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.37% to 16.04 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 1.64% or 1.30 to $77.94 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 1.60% or 1.33 to hit $81.79 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.10% or 1.95 to trade at $2,009.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 134.54, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 147.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 101.65.
