Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 16.22% or 2,280.00 points to trade at 16,340.00 at the close. Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5214) added 4.45% or 114.00 points to end at 2,673.00 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) was up 4.36% or 570.00 points to 13,640.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568), which lost 4.38% or 210.00 points to trade at 4,581.00 in late trade. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) declined 4.08% or 135.00 points to end at 3,170.00 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TYO:5232) shed 3.25% or 115.00 points to 3,420.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2044 to 1513 and 286 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.60% to 19.00.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.69% or 0.51 to $73.83 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.52% or 0.41 to hit $77.95 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.14% or 2.70 to trade at $1,961.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 139.36, while EUR/JPY fell 0.33% to 149.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 104.00.
