Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Railway & Bus and Gas & Water sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), which rose 5.77% or 424.00 points to trade at 7,777.00 at the close. Marubeni Corp. (TYO:8002) added 4.62% or 98.00 points to end at 2,221.50 and Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:9983) was up 4.60% or 1,550.00 points to 35,280.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003), which lost 1.81% or 9.00 points to trade at 488.00 in late trade. NTN Corp. (TYO:6472) declined 1.59% or 4.60 points to end at 285.00 and Sekisui House, Ltd. (TYO:1928) shed 0.97% or 27.00 points to 2,763.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2730 to 848 and 248 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.37% to 23.16 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.31% or 0.22 to $71.07 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.36% or 0.27 to hit $75.69 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.03% or 0.60 to trade at $1,979.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 139.48, while EUR/JPY rose 0.33% to 150.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 103.41.
