Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Textile and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.94% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 2.24% or 13.00 points to trade at 594.00 at the close. Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (TYO:8801) added 2.09% or 49.50 points to end at 2,417.50 and CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751) was up 1.83% or 21.00 points to 1,169.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Japan Tobacco Inc (TYO:2914), which lost 5.87% or 167.00 points to trade at 2,676.00 in late trade. Showa Denko K.K. (TYO:4004) declined 4.68% or 99.00 points to end at 2,016.00 and Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) shed 4.37% or 65.00 points to 1,422.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2135 to 1435 and 225 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.36% to 19.51.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 1.06% or 0.84 to $78.12 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 1.13% or 0.95 to hit $83.04 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.18% or 3.25 to trade at $1,812.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.51% to 133.79, while EUR/JPY fell 0.45% to 142.01.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.20.
