Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Insurance and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099), which rose 2.22% or 24.0 points to trade at 1104.0 at the close. DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432) added 2.13% or 56.0 points to end at 2686.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) was up 1.99% or 46.5 points to 2382.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Chiba Bank, Ltd. (T:8331), which lost 4.79% or 37.0 points to trade at 735.0 in late trade. The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (T:8750) declined 4.77% or 88.5 points to end at 1768.3 and Olympus Corp. (T:7733) shed 4.61% or 200.0 points to 4140.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2516 to 636 and 221 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 8.31% to 16.16.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.33% or 0.16 to $48.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.31% or 0.16 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.16% or 1.97 to trade at $1256.73 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 110.97, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 123.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 97.49.
