Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.22%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 10.74% or 0.26 points to trade at 2.68 at the close. Meanwhile, B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO) added 10.24% or 0.170 points to end at 1.830 and Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAA) was up 9.11% or 0.90 points to 10.78 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Enbridge Income Fund Holdings Inc . (TO:ENF), which fell 5.51% or 1.89 points to trade at 32.42 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 5.39% or 1.77 points to end at 31.07 and Trinidad Drilling Ltd . (TO:TDG) was down 3.73% or 0.10 points to 2.58.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 694 to 676 and 178 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.84% to 20.36.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.90% or 22.20 to $1187.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $46.59 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $49.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.86% to 0.7735, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6741.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.87% at 93.98.
