Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.90% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC), which rose 5.58% or 27.05 points to trade at 511.75 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 4.12% or 7.85 points to end at 198.40 and Indiabulls (NS:INBF) was up 3.87% or 40.45 points to 1086.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 4.04% or 23.90 points to trade at 567.65 in late trade. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 3.00% or 15.10 points to end at 488.90 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) shed 2.94% or 12.90 points to 426.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 5.46% to 511.80, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.99% to settle at 308.65 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which gained 2.57% to close at 203.80.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.93% to 568.55 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 2.48% to settle at 491.60 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 2.29% to 1111.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1166 to 394 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1788 rose and 807 declined, while 168 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.97% to 10.8625.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.80% or 9.99 to $1266.39 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.49% or 0.24 to hit $49.14 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.29 to trade at $51.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 64.460, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 72.3208.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.04.
