Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX), which rose 7.99% or 0.330 points to trade at 4.460 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 6.54% or 0.270 points to end at 4.400 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was up 5.60% or 0.52 points to 9.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA), which lost 7.18% or 2.690 points to trade at 34.770 in late trade. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 4.36% or 0.66 points to end at 14.47 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) shed 2.87% or 0.19 points to 6.43.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 608 to 472 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.86% to 14.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.33% or 3.99 to $1213.69 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.50% or 0.22 to hit $44.45 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.21 to trade at $46.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7758, while CAD/EUR fell 0.10% to 0.6805.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 95.81.
