Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Food Producers, Forestry & Paper and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 2.10% or 23.00 points to trade at 1117.00 at the close. Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) added 1.95% or 40.00 points to end at 2089.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.58% or 23.00 points to 1481.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 2.50% or 15.00 points to trade at 585.50 in late trade. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 2.43% or 10.00 points to end at 401.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 2.06% or 60.00 points to 2855.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 921 to 917 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.87% or 10.55 to $1227.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.89% or 0.41 to hit $46.49 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.45 to trade at $48.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.08% to 1.3080, while EUR/GBP fell 0.58% to 0.8758.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 95.03.
