Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.73% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which rose 2.80% or 34.50 points to trade at 1267.00 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) added 2.75% or 59.50 points to end at 2227.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was up 2.44% or 127.00 points to 5323.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 2.97% or 52.00 points to trade at 1701.00 in late trade. Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) declined 2.65% or 65.00 points to end at 2390.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 2.64% or 3.90 points to 143.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1290 to 1031 and 417 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.70% or 8.75 to $1260.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.81% or 1.40 to hit $51.21 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.29% or 1.19 to trade at $53.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.2388, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.9005.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 96.79.
