Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Insurance, Transportation Equipment and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NSK Ltd. (T:6471), which rose 4.59% or 68.0 points to trade at 1549.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Amada Co., Ltd. (T:6113) added 3.86% or 45.0 points to end at 1212.0 and Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) was up 3.51% or 2.0 points to 59.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269), which fell 4.92% or 510.0 points to trade at 9850.0 at the close. Sharp Corp. (T:6753) declined 4.55% or 6.0 points to end at 126.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) was down 3.66% or 9.0 points to 237.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 986 to 888.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.94% to 21.65.
Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.16% or 0.07 to $41.65 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.47% or 0.21 to hit $44.67 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 1.42% or 15.20 to trade at $1054.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was unchanged 0.00% to 122.81, while EUR/JPY fell 0.08% to 129.93.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 100.23.
