Investing.com -- President Trump, ahead of a meeting with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Store at the White House, responded to a question about the ongoing trade talks with China. He stated that a meeting had taken place that morning and that the U.S. has been in ongoing discussions with China. The specific individuals involved in the talks were not revealed, with Trump suggesting that this information may be disclosed at a later time.
Contrary to Trump’s assertion, Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated during a daily briefing on the same day that China and the U.S. are not currently engaged in any discussions or negotiations regarding tariffs, let alone reaching a trade deal.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry also called on the U.S. to remove all unilateral tariffs imposed on China. He Yadong, a spokesman for the Commerce Ministry, during a regular briefing in Beijing, dismissed any speculation of progress in bilateral communications. He described any reports on developments in the talks as baseless and called on the U.S. to demonstrate sincerity if it wants to reach a deal.
