* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Yamana Gold Inc, Aurora Cannabis Inc and Cenovus Energy Inc.
* The TSX's energy group fell 1.24 points, or 1.2%, while the financials sector slipped 0.04 points, or 0.0%.
* West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 3.36%, or $1.71, to $52.54 a barrel. Brent crude rose 3.22%, or $1.75, to $56.13 [O/R]
* The TSX is up 3.4% for the year.
