Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Real Estate and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND), which rose 3.83% or 11.60 points to trade at 314.80 at the close. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) added 2.91% or 39.00 points to end at 1,378.00 and Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) was up 2.72% or 15.40 points to 582.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 3.61% or 49.00 points to trade at 1,307.50 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 1.97% or 36.50 points to end at 1,818.50 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 1.67% or 10.00 points to 590.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 988 to 660 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,936.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.41% or 1.76 to hit $74.75 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.11% or 1.64 to trade at $79.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.47% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.42% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 101.39.
