Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Automobiles & Parts and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 2.75% or 42.50 points to trade at 1,586.50 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.18% or 19.00 points to end at 891.60 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 1.66% or 20.50 points to 1,258.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT), which lost 4.38% or 31.60 points to trade at 690.00 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 2.38% or 13.80 points to end at 566.20 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.32% or 7.90 points to 332.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 921 to 804 and 534 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.39% or 7.05 to $1,816.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.18% or 0.94 to hit $78.59 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 1.10 to trade at $83.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 104.01.
