Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Insurance and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.38% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 12.63% or 248.50 points to trade at 2,216.00 at the close. Aviva PLC (LON:AV) added 12.21% or 50.60 points to end at 464.90 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 11.56% or 79.60 points to 768.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GSK plc (LON:GSK), which lost 5.48% or 90.20 points to trade at 1,556.60 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 5.47% or 4.60 points to end at 79.52 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 2.38% or 43.00 points to 1,767.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1224 to 562 and 492 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 1.35 to $1,813.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.38% or 1.25 to hit $91.75 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.07% or 1.03 to trade at $97.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.43% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.28% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.33% at 104.84.
