Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.08% or 13.70 points to trade at 458.40 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 3.01% or 52.50 points to end at 1,798.50 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 2.71% or 59.00 points to 2,234.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 6.65% or 10.40 points to trade at 145.90 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.99% or 57.50 points to end at 1,382.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 3.95% or 96.50 points to 2,347.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 932 to 833 and 483 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.80% or 16.25 to $2,020.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.68% or 1.22 to hit $71.34 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.33% or 1.02 to trade at $75.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.89% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.38% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 101.86.
