Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which rose 2.73% or 12.30 points to trade at 462.40 at the close. Informa PLC (LON:INF) added 2.59% or 17.60 points to end at 697.00 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) was up 2.19% or 20.00 points to 935.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.15% or 42.00 points to trade at 774.00 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 5.06% or 600.00 points to end at 11,270.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) shed 4.75% or 16.30 points to 326.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1210 to 615 and 445 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.87% or 15.85 to $1,834.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.46% or 0.35 to hit $76.31 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.39 to trade at $82.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.77% to 1.19, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.36% to 0.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 105.19.
