Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Chemicals, Tobacco and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Abrdn PLC (LON:ABDN), which rose 5.25% or 11.20 points to trade at 224.60 at the close. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 3.60% or 44.50 points to end at 1,281.50 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 2.30% or 36.60 points to 1,629.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 12.16% or 76.00 points to trade at 548.80 in late trade. Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) declined 5.28% or 366.00 points to end at 6,562.00 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) shed 4.57% or 200.00 points to 4,174.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 970 to 865 and 469 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.67% or 12.30 to $1,837.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.11% or 1.60 to hit $77.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.82% or 1.49 to trade at $83.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 104.69.
