Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.83%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 2.60%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 5.56% or 5.76 points to trade at 109.37 at the close. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) added 5.35% or 1.71 points to end at 33.65 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was up 4.85% or 7.64 points to 165.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which added 0.82% or 2.31 points to trade at 282.83 in late trade. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 0.85% or 1.11 points to end at 132.28 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) gained 1.19% or 1.05 points to 89.56.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) which rose 10.48% to 333.38, Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was up 7.20% to settle at 12.50 and KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) which gained 7.18% to close at 16.71.
The worst performers were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 9.27% to 96.32 in late trade, Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which lost 4.98% to settle at 44.43 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was down 3.01% to 7.09 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Nutex Health Inc (NASDAQ:NUTX) which rose 72.40% to 0.96, Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:FNHC) which was up 56.48% to settle at 0.35 and Digital Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:DBGI) which gained 44.93% to close at 0.11.
The worst performers were Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) which was down 79.57% to 6.47 in late trade, Otonomy Inc (NASDAQ:OTIC) which lost 53.46% to settle at 0.12 and mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:MCLD) which was down 35.90% to 1.43 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2303 to 857 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2624 rose and 1175 declined, while 221 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.86% to 31.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.30% or 5.05 to $1,672.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.25% or 1.96 to hit $89.23 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.46% or 2.27 to trade at $94.72 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.75% to 0.98, while USD/JPY rose 0.23% to 147.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 112.36.
