Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 2.31%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (L:HIK), which rose 3.25% or 66.00 points to trade at 2095.00 at the close. Meanwhile, J Sainsbury PLC (L:SBRY) added 2.41% or 5.900 points to end at 250.500 and Associated British Foods PLC (L:ABF) was up 1.59% or 50.00 points to 3200.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 8.70% or 75.50 points to trade at 792.00 at the close. BP PLC (L:BP) declined 8.68% or 31.8500 points to end at 335.1000 and Prudential PLC (L:PRU) was down 8.22% or 109.00 points to 1217.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1574 to 531 and 440 ended unchanged.

Gold for April delivery was down 0.22% or 2.50 to $1125.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 4.54% or 1.44 to hit $30.18 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.77% or 1.29 to trade at $32.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.4399, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.7577.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 98.95.
