Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 3.21% or 18.50 points to trade at 594.00 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 3.00% or 5.90 points to end at 202.90 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) was up 2.94% or 10.40 points to 364.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 2.62% or 28.50 points to trade at 1059.00 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 2.60% or 7.65 points to end at 286.65 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 2.33% or 75.00 points to 3142.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1090 to 847 and 402 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.72% or 9.10 to $1277.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.64% or 1.69 to hit $44.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.57% or 1.74 to trade at $46.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.2807, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.8806.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 96.44.
