Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX declined 1.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were Philips Kon (AS:PHG), which rose 0.10% or 0.03 points to trade at 29.75 at the close. KPN Kon (AS:KPN) added 0.07% or 0.002 points to end at 2.720 and Relx NV (AS:RELN) was up 0.03% or 0.005 points to 17.635 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 6.18% or 0.441 points to trade at 6.690 in late trade. Gemalto (AS:GTO) declined 3.06% or 1.73 points to end at 54.77 and SBM Offshore (AS:SBMO) shed 3.03% or 0.48 points to 15.34.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 96 to 36 and 4 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 5.18% to 19.46 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.59% or 0.31 to $52.34 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.94% or 0.52 to hit $54.84 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 0.90 to trade at $1291.00 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.0701, while EUR/GBP fell 1.00% to 0.8384.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 99.69.
