Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.34% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 1.61% or 5.65 points to trade at 356.37 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 1.18% or 2.38 points to end at 204.85 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.11% or 2.03 points to 184.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 0.71% or 2.25 points to trade at 312.47 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 0.62% or 0.20 points to end at 31.83 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 0.50% or 0.20 points to 40.05.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) which rose 4.82% to 166.14, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX) which was up 4.25% to settle at 54.25 and Chubb Ltd (NYSE:CB) which gained 3.60% to close at 274.43.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was down 4.91% to 12.02 in late trade, Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which lost 3.29% to settle at 117.31 and Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was down 3.27% to 912.07 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Fangdd Network Group Ltd (NASDAQ:DUO) which rose 309.76% to 1.68, FLJ Group Ltd (NASDAQ:FLJ) which was up 223.59% to settle at 1.55 and Jeffs Brands Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:JFBR) which gained 109.03% to close at 0.65.
The worst performers were Blue Star Foods Corp (NASDAQ:BSFC) which was down 45.19% to 0.08 in late trade, SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) which lost 39.29% to settle at 0.09 and Heart Test Laboratories Inc Unit (NASDAQ:HSCS) which was down 38.37% to 6.97 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1570 to 1256 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1790 fell and 1570 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.46% to 11.99 a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.47% or 34.95 to $2,420.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.97% or 0.77 to hit $80.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.67 to trade at $83.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.20% to 155.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 104.37.
