Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.01% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which rose 5.29% or 1.280 points to trade at 25.480 at the close. Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) added 5.13% or 0.53 points to end at 10.86 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 4.66% or 0.55 points to 12.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which lost 7.50% or 0.24 points to trade at 2.96 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 4.98% or 0.130 points to end at 2.480 and ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) shed 4.97% or 0.090 points to 1.720.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 510 and 142 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.96% to 13.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 3.44 to $1246.94 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.25% or 0.98 to hit $42.53 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.65% or 1.22 to trade at $44.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.42% to 0.7505, while CAD/EUR fell 0.68% to 0.6723.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 97.24.
