Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Transportation and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 5.04% or 80.00 points to trade at 1,667.50 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.82% or 3.32 points to end at 90.25 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.25% or 19.20 points to 871.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.02% or 29.20 points to trade at 696.60 in late trade. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) declined 2.78% or 33.00 points to end at 1,155.50 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) shed 2.53% or 244.00 points to 9,412.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 890 to 862 and 518 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.33% or 5.90 to $1,809.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.75% or 1.42 to hit $79.80 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.88% or 1.63 to trade at $85.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 104.61.
