Investment Strategy

The Sub-Fund aims to achieve income together with capital growth over the long term (5 years or more). The Sub-Fund is actively managed and invests at least 75% of the portfolio in equities (company shares) of issuers domiciled, incorporated or with significant business in the Asia Pacific region (including Australia and New Zealand but excluding Japan), including ordinary shares, preference shares and other equity-related securities.

Biography Zoe is a portfolio manager on the Emerging Markets and Asia Equities team. Zoe joined Newton in 2000 as a dedicated Asia Pacific ex-Japan specialist. Having managed unconstrained Asian equity portfolios, she became lead manager on the Asian Equity Income Funds in 2016. She is also a lead manager on the Emerging Income Fund. Zoe holds a degree in German and Economics, and is a CFA charterholder. Outside of work, Zoe enjoys music and spending time with her young family.

Biography Mr. Pope joined Brookfield Investment Management in 2014 as a Director of the natural resources investment team. He is responsible for implementing investment strategy with a focus in energy, including upstream, downstream, chemicals and services. Prior to that, he was a Senior Analyst and Managing Director at Dahlman Rose (and upon acquisition at Cowen & Company) covering Exploration and Production sector. Before that, Mr. Pope was an Analyst at JP Morgan Chase & Co, Research Division, where he covered the U.S. based exploration and production companies. While at JP Morgan, he was also responsible for a number of in-depth research studies, including those relating to specific domestic production regions and emerging gas recovery technologies. Mr. Pope began his career in 2001 as a Senior Project Engineer at ExxonMobil Production Co. Mr. Pope was the recipient of Institutional Investor's Rising Stars of E&P Research in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Texas A&M University.

Biography Ilga joined Newton in 2019 to head up the firm’s equity income team and is part of the management team for the Newton Global Equity Income strategy. Prior to joining Newton, Ilga was head of Global Equities at Deka Investments, where she oversaw a team of more than 20 portfolio managers with €15bn of assets under management. She was also the lead manager of Deka’s flagship global equity income fund. Before joining Deka Investments, Ilga was a portfolio manager and research analyst at Union Investment, where she was lead manager of a North American generalist equities fund, a REIT, and a global listed real estate equities fund. Ilga began her asset management career with Munich Ergo Asset Management (MEAG) as a real estate specialist. Ilga has a PhD in economics, as well as masters degrees in economics and Roman languages, from the University of Freiburg in Germany. Outside of work, IIga enjoys spending time with her family and friends, travelling, visiting arts exhibitions, learning to play the viola and reading.

Biography Nick Clay is an investment manager and member of the global equity team at Newton, which he joined in 2000. He graduated in 1990 with a degree in Economics and Philosophy. He joined the Sun Alliance UK Equity Team. After gaining his professional qualifications to become a member of the Institute of Investment Management and Research, Nick moved to Provident Mutual Investment Managers. He joined Newton in November 2000 as a Specialist Benchmark Manager. Prior to joining Newton, Nick acquired a range of experience as a UK equities manager at Morley Fund Management and as an analyst at Sun Alliance. Nick attended Leeds University and is an associate member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals.

Biography Robert is investment leader of the Emerging and Asian equity team. He is a lead portfolio manager and a member of the team managing the Asian Income strategy. Since joining Newton in 1999, Robert has worked as a global industry analyst specialising in the mining, paper, steel, tobacco and utility sectors, before becoming a portfolio manager. Since early 2011, Robert has been the lead manager on our emerging market equity strategies. Robert began his career at Deloitte & Touche as a supervisor in the financial services practice. Biography Jason joined Jupiter in 2015 and is currently Head of Strategy, Asian Income as well as the manager. Before joining Jupiter, Jason is a portfolio manager with BNY Mellon (formerly Newton Asset Management), his employer since 2004. Previously he worked at BP, where he was responsible for stock selection and asset allocation in the Asia Pacific ex-Japan region for the BP pension fund. Prior to this, Jason started his career with Henderson Global Investors, where he was assistant fund manager between 1993 and 1996. He was one of a team of six covering 11 stock markets in the Pacific ex-Japan region.
