The sub-fund seeks to achieve a positive absolute return for investors regardless of market movements. The Fund will seek to achieve this investment objective by taking long, synthetic long and synthetic short investment exposures. The Fund will seek to gain at least 70% of its investment exposure through equities and equity- related securities (including derivatives) of, or giving exposure to, companies domiciled in, or exercising the predominant part of their economic activity in Europe. The Fund will seek to achieve this investment objective by investing at least 70% of its total assets in equities and equity-related securities and, when determined appropriate, cash and near-cash instruments. The Fund’s exposure to contingent convertible bonds is limited to 5% of its Net Asset Value.

Biography | Stefan Gries joined BlackRock’s European equity team in 2008, after previous roles at Scottish Widows, Aberdeen Asset Management and Deutsche Bank. Stefan gained his MA in Economics & Spanish from the University of St. Andrews. He started his career in 2005 as European equity analyst and portfolio assistant at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership. Biography | David joined Merrill Lynch Investment Managers on their Investment graduate program in 1998 after studying Economics at the University of Warwick. He moved to the small / mid-cap biased European Specialist team one year later, having enjoyed a year focused on US small caps. As team deputy head he was co-manager for the launch of a suite of long / short products across European and Swiss strategies after the BlackRock merger, before moving to the European team in 2013. In May 2017 his responsibilities were expanded to the European Absolute return strategy, while he continued to run the European Opportunities Extension fund and the Swiss strategies Swiss Opportunities and Aletsch. By the time of his departure he was Managing Director and deputy head of the European team. While a fund manager for twenty years, he maintained varied research responsibilities throughout, including a consistent coverage of European healthcare names. In 2023, he founded Covale Capital in London and Zug. | ||

Biography | Vincent Devlin, Director and portfolio manager, is a member of BlackRock's European Equity Style Diversified team. Mr. Devlin is responsible for European Absolute strategies managed within the Team. Vincent is also responsible for the BlackRock Continental European Fund and a number of Continental Europe ex UK separate accounts. Mr. Devlin joined BlackRock in 2008 from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP), where he was an Investment Director responsible for managing continental European and Euroland retail unit trusts. Prior to joining SWIP in 2000, he was with Insight Investments from 1998 to 2000, as an investment manager for European portfolios. He began his career in 1994 with Co-operative Insurance Society, where he was an assistant investment manager, responsible for managing emerging market and European portfolios. Mr. Devlin earned a BSc and an MEng, with honours, both in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Manchester in 1992. |
