Investment Strategy

The investment seeks a high level of current interest income exempt from regular federal, California State and, in some cases, California local income taxes as is consistent with preservation of capital. Under normal market conditions, the fund invests at least 80% of the sum of its net assets and the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes in municipal bonds that pay interest that is exempt from regular federal and California personal income tax. These municipal bonds include obligations issued by the State of California and its subdivisions, authorities, instrumentalities and corporations, as well as obligations issued by U.S. territories.

Biography	Steve manages separate accounts for the Municipal Fixed Income Team, focused primarily in the Northeast. Steve began his career in the financial services industry in 1979 when he joined the firm’s Municipal Research Department as an analyst. Prior to his current portfolio management role, he was the head of Municipal Trading Operations for Nuveen Asset Management for six years. In 1990, Steve moved over to Nuveen Asset Management as a mutual fund and closed-end fund portfolio manager. Previously, he was a municipal bond trader, responsible for trading the firm’s capital. As one of the company’s spokesmen on municipal market issues, Steve is often quoted in various financial publications, including Bloomberg News, Reuters, and The Bond Buyer. Steve received a B.A. in business from Illinois Benedictine College and an M.B.A. in finance from DePaul University. He is currently a member of the Chicago Municipal Analysts Society and was formerly a member of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.
