Investment Strategy

The investment seeks capital growth and income. The fund generally invests in a diversified group of other affiliated Schwab funds in accordance with its target portfolio allocation. It invests 55-65% of its assets in equity securities (including stocks and equity funds) and 35-45% in fixed-income securities (including bonds and fixed-income funds), and cash or cash equivalents (including money market funds). For temporary defensive purposes during unusual economic or market conditions or for liquidity purposes, the fund may invest up to 100% of its assets directly in cash, money market instruments, repurchase agreements and other short-term obligations.

Biography Patrick Kwok is a Portfolio Manager within the Multi-Asset Strategies Team for Schwab Asset Management. He supports the portfolio management process for multi-asset Schwab Funds®. Previously, Mr. Kwok served as an associate portfolio manager from 2012 to 2016. Prior to that, he worked as a fund administration manager, where he was responsible for oversight of sub-advisers, trading, cash management, and fund administration supporting the Charles Schwab Trust Bank Collective Investment Trusts and multi-asset Schwab Funds. Prior to joining Schwab Asset Management in 2008, Mr. Kwok spent two years as an asset operations specialist at Charles Schwab Trust Company. He also worked for one year at State Street Bank & Trust as a portfolio accountant and pricing specialist. Mr. Kwok earned a Master of Science in financial analysis from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a CFA® charterholder.

Biography Zifan Tang is a Senior Portfolio Manager on the Multi-Asset Strategies Team for Schwab Asset Management. She is responsible for the management of Schwab’s multi-asset funds, which comprise the Schwab Target Funds, Schwab Target Index Funds, Schwab MarketTrack Portfolios, Schwab Monthly Income Funds, Schwab Balanced Fund, and Schwab VIT Portfolios. Prior to joining Schwab in 2012, Ms. Tang was a product manager at Thomson Reuters and from 1997 to 2009 worked as a portfolio manager at Barclays Global Investors (now known as BlackRock). Ms. Tang holds a doctorate in engineering from Royal School of Mines, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, UK. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at Huadong Petroleum Institute (currently named China University of Petroleum). She is a CFA® charterholder.

Biography Jake Gilliam is a Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Construction Solutions supporting Schwab Asset Management®. In this role, he leads the Schwab Asset Management research, portfolio analytics, and investment portfolio strategist teams. Mr. Gilliam is responsible for the strategic direction of multi-asset class portfolios and portfolio construction across Schwab Asset Management, [including non-discretionary advisory services provided for Charles Schwab Trust Bank’s Collective Investment Trusts], and provides analytical support to advisers, institutions, and clients. Additionally, Mr. Gilliam provides strategic leadership for Schwab Asset Management’s multi-asset and sub-advised investment strategies, as well as for the firm’s portfolio construction framework. He also participates in Asset Allocation and Third-Party Investment Oversight committees and represents Schwab Asset Management’s multi-asset class strategies and framework to the institutional marketplace, clients, and the media. Mr. Gilliam has more than 20 years of retirement industry and multi-asset management experience. Previously, he was the head of research and analytics, as well as head client portfolio strategist for Schwab Asset Management’s multi-asset strategies. Prior to that, Mr. Gilliam was the senior portfolio manager for Charles Schwab Trust Bank’s Collective Investment Trusts and the head of sub-adviser oversight for Schwab Asset Management. Additionally, Mr. Gilliam served as the interim head of asset allocation and portfolio manager for all of Schwab Asset Management’s multi-asset class funds. Prior to these roles, he oversaw the due diligence process for maintaining the Schwab Focus List. Earlier in his career, Mr. Gilliam was a sell-side equity research associate. Mr. Gilliam earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Ohio University. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Cleveland. Mr. Gilliam is also a member of the Ohio University College of Business Finance Advisory Council and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designee. He holds Series 7 and 66 licenses.

Biography Daniel is responsible for establishing and driving the overall company strategy for Advisor Partners, and oversees all aspects of company operations. As CIO, he establishes the investment philosophy and process for Advisor Partners. Prior to joining Advisor Partners, Daniel was Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for Charles Schwab Investment Management. He managed asset allocation funds, including target funds, from October 2008 to July 2011. Daniel's leadership postions at Schwab prior to October 2008 included heading product development and serving as CFO of a fund company. Prior to Schwab, he was Managing Director and Principal for Montgomery Asset Management. He became a CFA charter holder in 1995. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1985 and a BA from Claremont McKenna College in 1981.

Biography Paul is currently responsible for managing the SER funds. He joined CSIM in 2003, where he has worked in different areas including quantitative research, performance, competitive analysis, and fund administration. Prior to joining CSIM, he worked for several advisory firms in different capacities, including portfolio management, trading and compliance. He earned a BA and MBA in Finance from California State University, Sacramento. He holds a CFA designation and Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.

Biography Mr. Dialynas is a managing director in the Newport Beach office, a portfolio manager, and a member of PIMCO’s Investment Committee. He has written extensively and lectured on the topic of fixed-income investing. Mr. Dialynas served on the editorial board of The Journal of Portfolio Management and was a member of the Fixed Income Curriculum Committee of the Association for Investment Management and Research. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College. He joined PIMCO in 1980.
