Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to maximize total return. Under normal circumstances, the fund will invest at least 80% of its net assets (plus the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes) in fixed income securities of emerging market issuers. It will invest in debt securities of government, government-related and corporate issuers in emerging market countries, as well as entities organized to restructure the outstanding debt of such issuers. The fund is non-diversified.

Morgan in fixed income research developing quantitative arbitrage strategies for emerging debt and high yield bonds. Biography Antoon is Co-Head of Emerging Market Sovereign & FX at Ninety One. He is co portfolio manager on Emerging Market Local Currency, Emerging Market Local Currency Total Return and African Fixed Income strategies and also contributes to regional analytical research. He joined the Investec Group in 2005 as part of the Investec chartered accountant (TOPP) Programme. Werner moved to London from Cape Town where he was a fixed income quantitative analyst and managed Ninety One’s asset and liability matching book. Prior to Ninety One, Werner played professional rugby in concurrence with academic programmes. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Insurance Science from the University of Pretoria, a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree in Financial Economics from the University of Stellenbosch, and a Master of Science degree in Applied Statistics from Oxford University. Biography Fernando Phillips is a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager & Co-Head of Marathon's Emerging Markets Group. Since joining Marathon in 2006, Mr. Phillips's core focus has been in Emerging Markets credit strategies. Prior to joining Marathon, he was an Assistant Vice President at General Electric Capital Corporation where he participated in the underwriting of credit securities. Biography Louis Hanover is Chief Investment Officer and Co-Managing Partner of the firm. Mr. Hanover oversees Marathon’s portfolio managers and their investment activities. Mr. Hanover’s responsibilities also include managing risk on a firm-wide basis, as well as serving as Senior Portfolio Manager for MSOF, MCOF, and managed accounts. Additionally, Mr. Hanover serves on Marathon’s Investment Committee and Executive Committee. Mr. Hanover has extensive trading experience and expertise as an asset manager, arbitrageur, and risk manager in both the equity and fixed income markets on a global basis. Prior to co-founding Marathon in 1998, Mr. Hanover was a Managing Director at Smith Barney, where he was responsible for all trading and risk management in the global emerging markets debt trading division. Earlier, Mr. Hanover was a Director of the global emerging markets debt and foreign exchange derivatives trading division at Merrill Lynch. In 1991, he pioneered the use of warrants on a basket of Latin American equities at Nomura Securities. Mr. Hanover previously traded European sovereign debt futures at First Chicago Capital Markets and was a floor trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. Biography Andrew Szmulewicz is a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager in Marathon’s Emerging Markets Group. Prior to joining Marathon, Mr. Szmulewicz spent 9 years at J.P. Morgan Chase, where he worked on the Emerging Markets trading desk developing key market benchmarks such as the CEMBI and NEXGEM indices and determining rules and instrument level composition for the widely followed EMBI, GBI-EM and ELMI+ index series. He holds a BSE in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Biography Ian is Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Colchester Global Investors. Ian founded the firm in 1999 and is responsible for the strategic direction of the firm. Ian oversees the management of the firm’s assets globally as Chief Investment Officer and has final say on any investment matter. Ian has enjoyed a successful career in the field of global fixed income and currency investment management. Biography Keith Lloyd is Group Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Investment Officer of Colchester Global Investors and has been with the firm since its inception. Keith manages the Investment and Operations teams and oversees investment research, portfolio construction and implementation on a day to day basis. Keith regularly contributes his insights to Investment Outlook papers. Keith began his career in 1983 as an international macro-monetary economist and Investment Manager. Prior to Colchester, Keith spent eight years in the World Bank’s Investment Department managing global real and leveraged money as a lead fixed income portfolio manager, senior investment strategist and proprietary trader. His previous work experience includes seven years with the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as an economist where he served on its policy-making committee.
