Investment Strategy

The investment seeks to provide current income; long-term capital appreciation is a secondary objective. Under normal circumstances, the fund seeks to meet its investment objectives by investing generally more than 80% of its net assets, plus any borrowings for investment purposes, in dividend-paying and/or interest-bearing securities. The fund aims to invest in securities of companies with a strong and improving cash flow sufficient to support a sustainable or rising income stream for investors.

Biography Mr. Barnard joined Westwood in 2020 and serves as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager. Mr. Barnard manages a wide variety of investment mandates with a focus on corporate credit, municipal, U.S. Treasury and U.S. Agency bonds for Institutional and Private Wealth clients. Prior to joining Westwood, Mr. Barnard was an Associate Portfolio Manager at Amundi Pioneer in Boston. Mr. Barnard helped design, launch and manage numerous customized investment solutions for both institutional and retail clients during his time at Amundi Pioneer. During his 14-year tenure, he also co-created a risk management solution that was utilized across the entire firm for all fixed income portfolios. Mr. Barnard is a CFA charterholder and graduated with a BS in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Biography Adrian Helfert, Senior Vice President is Chief Investment Officer, Multi-Asset Portfolios at Westwood. Having originally joined Westwood in 2019, Mr. Helfert oversees multiple strategies with portfolio management and leadership responsibilities across the Multi-Asset continuum, including our flagship, Income Opportunity. Throughout his career, Mr. Helfert has developed a strong track record working on collaborative, global teams. Prior Westwood, Mr. Helfert served as Managing Director and Senior Multi-Asset Portfolio Manager at Amundi Smith Breeden in London, where he was responsible for Global Fixed Income strategies. During his 13-year Amundi tenure, he also was an investment team leader on absolute return, unconstrained and total return portfolios across multiple asset classes including equity and fixed income across multiple asset classes including equity and fixed income. Before joining Amundi, Mr. Helfert worked at Royal Bank of Scotland and JPMorgan's Asset Management Group. Mr. Helfert earned his MBA from Duke University and his BA in physics from the University of Virginia, where he was awarded a fellowship for his work in Solid State Physics. He also served in the U.S. Navy / Marine Corps as a Combat Medic.

Biography David serves as a Senior Portfolio Manager and leads the firm’s Global Convertible Securities team. Prior to joining Westwood, David spent 15 years managing both the long only and absolute return global convertible securities strategies at Aviva Investors and co-founded their convertible funds in April 2002. Before this he was a Portfolio Manager and Equity Analyst at HSB Group for one year, and an Equity Analyst and later a Convertible Securities Analyst at Phoenix Investment Partners for seven years. David earned a BSc in Business Administration and Finance from Bryant University. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Biography Mr. Daniel J. Barnes, CFA, has served as Vice President and Global Analyst for Westwood Management since December 2014. Prior to joining Westwood Management, Mr. Barnes was a Senior Credit Analyst at Coronation Global Investments. Additionally, he served as a Capital Structure Research Analyst at Imperial Capital from 2011 to 2013 and as a Senior European Investment Analyst at Coronation Capital from 2005 to 2009. Mr. Barnes earned his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and his BA in Economics and Mathematics from Colby College. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth.

Biography Mr. Williams, who joined Westwood in 2002, serves as Director of Equity Research. He also has responsibility for investment research in the REITs and coal industries. Mr. Williams began his professional career with Textron Financial Corp. as a Credit Analyst. He has also worked with Methodist Hospital and Norsig & Associates as an Analyst, and AMR Investments, Inc. as a Portfolio Manager and Credit Analyst. Mr. Williams graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BBA in Finance and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth.

Biography Mr. Freeman is Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Westwood Holdings Group, where he oversees the firm’s investment and research functions. Mr. Freeman serves as a Senior Portfolio Manager and is responsible for developing the firm’s economic outlook. Additionally, he is a member of the firm’s Asset Allocation and Business Management Committees. Mr. Freeman graduated Cum Laude from Millsaps College, where he was a United Methodist Bicentennial Scholar, with a BA in Economics. He also earned his MS in Economics from Louisiana State University. Mr. Freeman began his career with the U.S. Peace Corps where he served as a Program Director for two years in Togo, West Africa. Prior to joining Westwood in 1999, Mr. Freeman worked for KPMG and First American Corp., as Senior Economist and Fixed Income Strategist. Mr. Freeman achieved the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst in 1998 and is a member of the American Economic Association, the CFA Institute, and the CFA Society of Dallas-Fort Worth. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Millsaps College and serves as a board member for the Wilson Fund and Capital for Kids, an organization comprised of members of the investment management business dedicated to meeting the needs of at-risk children in North Texas.

Biography Susan M. Byrne is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Westwood Management Corp., a registered investment advisor. Founded in 1983, Westwood serves a variety of institutional clients, such as corporate pension funds, religious organizations, endowments and foundations. In addition, Westwood is the investment advisor to The Westwood Funds, a family of open-ended mutual funds. Westwood Management currently manages approximately $4 billion in assets. Ms. Byrne is a member of both the New York and Dallas Societies of Securities Analysts. Ms. Byrne has over 40 years of Wall Street portfolio management and plan sponsor experience.
