Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Insurance, Mining and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 1.47% or 6.500 points to trade at 448.200 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 0.92% or 23.00 points to end at 2535.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 0.85% or 34.00 points to 4035.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 7.67% or 173.00 points to trade at 2081.00 in late trade. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) declined 2.92% or 84.00 points to end at 2797.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 2.87% or 16.00 points to 542.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1394 to 681 and 480 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.46% or 6.30 to $1350.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.43% or 0.20 to hit $46.38 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.49% or 0.24 to trade at $49.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.3005, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8661.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 94.89.
