Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Utilities and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Selonda Aquaculture SA (AT:SELr), which rose 9.42% or 0.0130 points to trade at 0.1510 at the close. Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr) added 7.73% or 0.015 points to end at 0.209 and Iktinos Hellas (AT:IKTr) was up 7.14% or 0.0560 points to 0.8400 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Revoil Petrol (AT:REVr), which lost 15.38% or 0.064 points to trade at 0.352 in late trade. Select Textile (AT:EPIr) declined 7.14% or 0.012 points to end at 0.156 and Jumbo SA (AT:BABr) shed 4.54% or 0.690 points to 14.510.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 69 to 33 and 11 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.03% or 0.30 to $1133.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $53.20 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.19 to trade at $55.16 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.39% to 1.0430, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.8438.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.25% at 103.00.
