Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.02% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC), which rose 4.79% or 115.00 points to trade at 2518.00 at the close. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) added 4.12% or 244.00 points to end at 6172.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 4.09% or 112.50 points to 2861.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.00% or 17.40 points to trade at 852.80 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 1.54% or 38.00 points to end at 2425.00 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) shed 1.07% or 1.38 points to 127.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1458 to 746 and 198 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.69% or 23.95 to $1389.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $58.51 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.13 to trade at $64.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.2638, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.8934.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 96.352.
