Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Engineering sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.14% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL), which rose 9.98% or 60.30 points to trade at 664.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Rio Tinto PLC (LONDON:RIO) added 7.48% or 173.000 points to end at 2487.000 and Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) was up 7.36% or 39.50 points to 576.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LONDON:ICAG), which fell 5.63% or 33.00 points to trade at 553.50 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LONDON:EZJ) declined 5.00% or 88.000 points to end at 1672.000 and Carnival PLC (LONDON:CCL) was down 4.59% or 158.00 points to 3285.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1164 to 1032 and 427 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1146.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.23% or 0.11 to hit $48.64 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.21 to trade at $52.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.61% to 1.5321, while EUR/GBP fell 0.83% to 0.7342.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 95.58.
