Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA), which rose 7.84% or 0.90 points to trade at 12.38 at the close. Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) added 3.55% or 0.110 points to end at 3.210 and Constellation Software Inc . (TO:CSU) was up 3.54% or 23.09 points to 675.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which lost 13.40% or 0.41 points to trade at 2.65 in late trade. Just Energy Group Inc . (TO:JE) declined 12.71% or 1.05 points to end at 7.21 and Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAAS) shed 5.87% or 1.46 points to 23.42.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 717 to 423 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.90% to 13.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.84% or 10.61 to $1248.09 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.55% or 0.27 to hit $49.34 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.28 to trade at $52.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7348, while CAD/EUR rose 0.39% to 0.6615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 97.73.
