Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Technology and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.33%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.23%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which rose 2.73% or 0.295 points to trade at 11.115 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.90% or 2.55 points to end at 136.60 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) was up 1.63% or 0.300 points to 18.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which lost 3.35% or 3.30 points to trade at 95.18 in late trade. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) declined 0.77% or 0.570 points to end at 73.040 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) shed 0.75% or 0.460 points to 60.600.
The top performers on the MDAX were Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which rose 7.35% to 73.43, Metro AG (DE:MEOG) which was up 7.13% to settle at 9.885 and Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which gained 3.11% to close at 66.720.
The worst performers were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 0.75% to 11.30 in late trade, Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which lost 0.32% to settle at 12.325 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which was down 0.30% to 151.20 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 6.25% to 7.957, Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which was up 3.37% to settle at 60.480 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which gained 2.95% to close at 39.070.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was down 3.00% to 11.800 in late trade, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which lost 1.57% to settle at 23.160 and RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was down 0.97% to 14.745 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 443 to 322 and 22 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.94% to 13.39.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.52 to $1248.58 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.55% or 0.74 to hit $48.63 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 0.64 to trade at $50.84 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.10% to 1.1634, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8916.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 94.01.
