Investing.com – Netherlands equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were SBM Offshore (AS:SBMO), which rose 3.81% or 0.56 points to trade at 15.12 at the close. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) added 1.70% or 0.990 points to end at 59.390 and Gemalto (AS:GTO) was up 0.69% or 0.38 points to 55.37 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Dutch Shell A (AS:RDSa), which lost 0.93% or 0.245 points to trade at 26.020 in late trade. Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV (AS:AD) declined 0.66% or 0.13 points to end at 19.69 and Unilever NV (AS:UNc) shed 0.52% or 0.20 points to 39.07.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 62 to 59 and 17 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 0.65% to 13.57.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 1.05% or 0.56 to $52.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.23% or 0.68 to hit $54.67 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.05% or 0.60 to trade at $1133.00 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.43% to 1.0434, while EUR/GBP rose 0.61% to 0.8450.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 102.99.
