Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical, Household Goods & Home Construction and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.38% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 3.07% or 4.35 points to trade at 146.15 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 2.25% or 18.00 points to end at 817.80 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 2.23% or 106.00 points to 4854.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 2.93% or 56.50 points to trade at 1872.00 in late trade. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) declined 2.60% or 5.32 points to end at 199.18 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) shed 1.01% or 6.40 points to 626.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1409 to 699 and 107 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.70 to $1322.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.00% or 0.62 to hit $61.39 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.43 to trade at $67.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.3563, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.8876.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 91.72.
