Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Forestry & Paper and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 1.90% or 2.75 points to trade at 147.35 at the close. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) added 1.41% or 2.24 points to end at 160.98 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 1.19% or 72.00 points to 6129.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 2.70% or 79.00 points to trade at 2844.50 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.58% or 40.60 points to end at 1536.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.39% or 22.60 points to 924.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1005 to 998 and 338 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.74% or 8.90 to $1194.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.29% or 0.20 to hit $67.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.11 to trade at $74.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.72% to 1.2818, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.9017.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 95.43.
